Scouts & Guides
Set in a unique riverside location near Marlow, Buckinghamshire, Longridge provides a range of exciting water sports and land-based activities aimed at young people of all abilities.
Our environment is perfect to provide a fun, challenging and safe environment for Scouts and Guides to visit from across the UK and enjoy our unique blend of water and land-based adventurous activities. Longridge is equipped to offer both residential and day visits. We have Scouts that come and camp with us for two weeks in the summer and bring entire area groups, and Scouts that just join us for their Water Adventure Weekend. We can work together to create the visit that suits your needs, all you have to do is get in touch.
Longridge has been in operation for over 50 years and our world-class facilities are now used by 85,000 young people each year. Longridge is set in a fantastic Thames riverside location, boasting 12 acres of beautiful water meadows near Marlow, Buckinghamshire. We have our very own private island perched in the Thames, which is ideal for kick-starting the ultimate Swallows and Amazons experience. Taylor Island also provides us with a sheltered backwater in which young people can experience the river with confidence, whilst our proximity to the channel and Marlow weir can allow for more adventurous sessions depending on participants levels of experience.
We are approved by British Canoe, the Royal Yacht Association (RYA) and British Rowing and provide vocational training courses that can lead to an accredited qualification. You can build a recognised course into your residential stay with us or for those schools close to the centre we can create a bespoke course running over a half-term. We are also able to support your Y11 pupils with their GCSE PE qualification sport modules. All of our activities and training courses are fully risk-assessed and are reviewed annually. You can download our Risk Management and Child Protection policies, if you require any specific risk assessments our Bookings Team will forward these to you.
Longridge is accredited by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) and the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA), and we believe we are the best outdoor education facility in the UK. We encourage young people to develop water skills as well as important life skills such as leadership, self-discipline, confidence and respect.
Staying on site
Longridge has great transport links with ample parking and a range of bunk room and camping facilities and options for fully catered stays. Fully accessible toilets and showers (open 24 hours a day for our guest), masses of open space and dedicated groups areas are available. Our training centre also has a variety of rooms that you can use if you need to have a skills session whilst you are here, or even just to use as a communal space to watch a film in the evening.
We have a selection of indoor accommodation that can take up to 87 people, although this is slightly dependent on the gender split of the group in question. Our campsites can take up to 500 people in total (less if you need open space for wide games or self catering), spread out across our beautiful riverside site. We also offer a range of catering options, whether you’d like to go self-catered and use our training centre kitchen, or select from our hot or cold food menus.
Full board is provided by our own team of caterers who have years of experience in catering for young people, providing simple, tasty menus that can be adapted to suit many dietary requirements. Seating is in our Café and our covered outdoor dining areas. Alternatively you may wish to self-cater. Our Training Rooms have a small kitchen which can be used in conjunction with our Training Rooms for indoor dining. Or we have a larger outdoor kitchen which is perfect for those camping with us. Some groups choose to do a combination of both, using the self catering kitchen to provide breakfast and lunch, allowing our team to prepare a hot meal in the evening. The choice is yours. Our campsites are also large enough for you to bring along your own mess tent if you choose to camp, and we have fire pits and drinking water taps dotted around the campsites that allow for a totally self sufficient camping experience.
You are very welcome to create, with our Team’s help, your own itinerary. Alternatively you can pick one of our day or residential packages below which sorts out the activities during the day for you. In the evening you can either add in additional activities – we run activities up to 9.15pm or bring in your own entertainment – over the years our visitors have bought in magicians, petting zoos and circus acts. Our training centre also has a variety of rooms that you can use if you need to have a study session whilst you are here, or even just to use as a communal space to watch a film in the evening – (0r you can just sit and enjoy our rather beautiful setting).
Every year, Longridge is host to a number of county organised scouting and guiding events. We have years of experience of delivering county events and are proud of the relationship and events that we have developed and run for the benefit of all young cubs, scouts, brownies, guides and anyone associated with scouting youth groups. We can create bespoke events for all of your needs or check out some of the pre-organised events we have running.Special Events
